The use of video conferencing technology is increasing exponentially in the education community both internationally and within New Zealand.
Integrating Video Conferencing into your school
Video conferencing is a great tool for the classroom and for professional development for educators. In order to ensure it is used effectively and without placing additional overheads on already strained resources it is important to ensure the following:
- Educators receive appropriate training in the use of the technology and assistance in planning and availability of resources.
- The equipment is properly configured and set up within the school’s network to ensure ease of use and a positive user experience.
Training
The GCSN is currently planning a number of workshops which all members will be welcome to attend. These workshops will allow teachers to become comfortable with using the hardware, and cover some of the use cases for video conferencing. All participants will receive a certificate after completion of the workshop to indicate they know how to use the equipment at their school.
In addition, we have prepared some online tutorials, which can be accessed from the menu on the right.
Network Configuration
Often when your video conferencing eqipment is having difficulty either making or receiving calls, your schools network configuration will be responsible. Video conferencing is simply a rich form of communication technology, allowing unprecedented levels of interaction with people all over the world. In schools it is being used to support projects, programmes and professional development for both teachers and students.
