Bank On It!

Bank On It!

Who was Involved?

What did you do?

We looked at improving financial literacy with our Year 7/8 students as part of their topic on Consumerism.  Their job was to choose a bank that was suitable to their saving and spending habits.

Learning for Students and Teachers

Students used the wireless connection via the tablets/laptops to go between the interactive games on Sorted. 'Sty Wars'  is a game where a series of fictitious banks with different user fees, costs, interest rates, and incentives are explored.  Students first have to identify their money personality and examine their own spending habits. They then proceed to the game, go through the activities, and  declare which bank they wish to join.  Working out interest rates, weighing up options and incentives, working out the difference between 'need' and 'want' were all part of the process.

Some of the students continued with an advertisement of their own bank, offering up deals to the public to join based on some of the specifications of the other banks.

How did the fibre help?
