State Sector Computer Procurement Contracts
The Government has just signed a computer procurement contract with five hardware suppliers as detailed here:

An earlier statement one year ago
http://www.beehive.govt.nz/release/reforms+government+procurement
includes the following section:
"Use of all-of-government contracts by agencies in the wider State Sector (including State Owned Enterprises and Tertiary Education Institutes) and school boards of trustees will be encouraged, but is ultimately optional. The contracts are unlikely to extend to local government, even at an optional level."
At this stage I have not been able to find anything to this effect on the Ministry's website in relation to the intention to leverage the procurement process for school boards.
There is a specific website for the all of government procurement and it contains this page:

and this document

It would appear from this FAQ
http://www.med.govt.nz/templates/Page____43962.aspx
that school boards of trustees would fit the definition of "agencies" and as such would be in the position to participate in the procurement process in their own right, rather than through another agency (compare with the TELA system for example).
I presume that the Ministry will be producing information for schools in due course but in the meantime it would appear to be incumbent on the schools to make their own enquiries and approach MED about participating in the procurement contracts.
